BMW has filed recall plans with the State Administration for Market Regulation several times due to drive shaft problems. In June 2017, BMW (China) Automobile Trading Co., Ltd. recalled some imported BMW X5 and X6 series vehicles, totaling 86,778 vehicles, because the oil seal of the front drive shaft bearing of the vehicle may slide out of the designed position after long-term use. In some cases, the cross section of the drive shaft may break, posing a safety hazard. In January 2019, BMW (China) Automobile Trading Co., Ltd. again recalled some imported BMW M3 and M4 vehicles, totaling 279 vehicles, because the drive shaft flange may gradually fall off the drive shaft after long-term high-load use due to design errors, posing a safety hazard.
