German car production falls, but employment remains relatively stable

Despite a 12% drop in German car production from 4.7 million in 2019 to 4.1 million in 2023, employment in the automotive industry has remained relatively stable. German car production peaked in 2016 at 5.7 million. However, since then, employment in the automotive industry has only fallen by around 30,000 people to 780,000. Experts say that despite the drop in production, employment has not been greatly affected due to a shortage of skilled workers.
