Honda and Nissan start merger talks, plan to complete in 2026

On December 23, Japanese automakers Honda Motor and Nissan Motor signed a memorandum of understanding to formally launch merger negotiations. Over the next six months, the two companies will discuss merging their businesses into a holding company, with plans to complete the merger in August 2026. After the merger, the new holding company will become the world's third-largest automaker by sales.
