IEC sets efficiency standards for motors and integrated drive motors

The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) sets efficiency standards for electric motors and integrated drive motors. These motors are typically driven by AC power and account for more than 50% of global industrial electricity consumption. Even a small improvement in efficiency can save a lot of energy. For example, if global efficiency increases by 2%, 230TWh of energy can be saved each year.
