The research team of the Solid State Energy System Technology Center of Qingdao Institute of Bioenergy and Process Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, led by researcher Cui Guanglei, has successfully designed a new type of homogenized cathode material. This material has the characteristics of high ionic conductivity (0.2 mS cm−1), high electronic conductivity (225 mS cm−1) and high discharge specific capacity (250 mA h g−1). Compared with traditional layered oxide cathode materials, the conductivity of the new material is increased by 1000 times, and the specific capacity also exceeds the current high nickel cathode materials. In addition, the volume deformation of the material during the charge and discharge process is only 1.2%, which is much lower than the 50% of traditional materials. These excellent properties make the material have broad application prospects in all-solid-state lithium batteries.
