Recently, under the leadership of researcher Cui Guanglei, Ju Jiangwei, Cui Longfei, Zhang Shu and others from the Solid State Energy System Technology Center of Qingdao Institute of Bioenergy and Process Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, pioneered the design of homogenized cathode materials. This breakthrough research overturned the paradigm of composite cathodes for all-solid-state lithium batteries and solved long-standing technical problems. By regulating the conductivity and charge-discharge capacity of LiTi2(PS4)3, the research team successfully synthesized Li1.75Ti2(Ge0.25P0.75S3.8Se0.2)3 with high ionic conductivity, high electronic conductivity and high discharge specific capacity. This new material not only has a conductivity 1,000 times higher than that of traditional layered oxide cathode materials, but also has a specific capacity that exceeds that of current high-nickel cathode materials. In addition, the material undergoes only 1.2% volume deformation during the charge and discharge process, which is much lower than the 50% of traditional layered oxide cathode materials. This innovative research result will contribute to the rapid commercialization of all-solid-state lithium batteries and is of great significance for the development of energy storage devices with high energy density and long service life.
