Sigrid de Vries, Secretary General of the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA), said that in order to narrow the infrastructure gap and achieve climate goals, investment in public charging infrastructure must be increased immediately. At present, the total number of public charging stations in the EU has exceeded 630,000, but it is expected to reach 3.5 million by 2030. However, ACEA estimates that by 2030, the EU will need 8.8 million charging stations to meet demand, which is equivalent to 1.2 million new charging stations per year, eight times the number installed last year.
