Xiaomi calls on India to lower import duties on smartphone components

Xiaomi has reportedly proposed to the Indian government that India lower import duties on smartphone components to attract more component suppliers to set up operations in India. Xiaomi has the largest smartphone market share in India, reaching 18%. The company assembles smartphones in India, mainly using local components, and the rest are imported from China and other places. Muralikrishnan B., president of Xiaomi India, stressed in the letter that India needs to take steps to build trust and encourage component suppliers to do business locally.
