OpenAI's GPT-5 development is behind schedule

OpenAI has encountered some difficulties in the development of its next major AI model, GPT-5, causing the project to fall behind schedule. Current results do not yet justify the huge development costs. This is consistent with previous reports from The Information, which said that OpenAI is looking for new strategic directions because GPT-5 may not bring the same huge leap as previous models. The report provides more details about the 18-month development process of GPT-5, code-named Orion. It is reported that OpenAI has completed at least two large training runs with the aim of improving the model through large amounts of data training. However, the initial training runs were slower than expected, indicating that larger-scale training runs are time-consuming and costly. Although GPT-5 performs better than its predecessor, its progress is still not enough to justify the cost of keeping the model running.
