On January 23, 2023, the U.S. government said that the U.S. Department of Transportation and the Department of Energy will invest $325 million in three projects to advance electric vehicle technology, repair charging piles, and reduce battery costs. This funding is part of the U.S. National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) plan with a total value of $5 billion, which comes from the $1 trillion infrastructure law passed in 2021. Under the NEVI plan, states need to operate federally funded charging piles for at least five years, and these charging piles must work normally for more than 97% of the time.
