BMW and Croatian electric car manufacturer Rimac announced that they have reached an agreement to jointly develop high-voltage battery technology for electric vehicles, with the goal of challenging Asia's dominance in the field of electric vehicle batteries. Rimac, the electric supercar manufacturer in which Porsche holds a 45% stake, is currently expanding its business to provide battery systems and powertrain components to other automakers. Rimac plans to produce about 100,000 batteries per year in the next few years. BMW said that this cooperation will not provide new cylindrical power batteries for the "Neue Klasse" electric car that will be put into production in 2025.
