Northvolt cooperates with BMW, Umicore and others to establish a car battery recycling company

In 2018, Northvolt, BMW and Belgian materials supplier Umicore jointly established an automotive battery recycling company. Subsequently, Northvolt and Norwegian aluminum company Hydro jointly established a joint venture company, Hydrovolt. In May 2022, the joint venture began commercial recycling business, which can process about 12,000 tons of battery packs per year.
