TSMC's 3D optical engine strategy enters the silicon photonics market

TSMC has officially entered the silicon photonics market with its 3D optical engine strategy. TSMC's first-generation 3D optical engine (or COUPE) will be integrated into an OSFP pluggable device running at 1.6 Tbps, which is much faster than the current copper Ethernet standard. In the future, TSMC will also launch second- and third-generation COUPEs with higher transmission rates to meet the growing bandwidth demand.
