According to Reuters, the European Commission, the EU antitrust enforcement agency, has decided to conditionally approve the acquisition of industrial simulation software company Ansys by EDA and semiconductor IP leader Synopsys. If successfully completed, this $35 billion deal will become the second largest deal in the technology circle after Broadcom's acquisition of VMware for $69 billion. In order to ensure the smooth progress of the transaction, Synopsys has promised to sell its optical solutions division after completing the acquisition of Ansys and consider the European Commission's advice to split Ansys' RTL power analysis software PowerArtist. This move is intended to ease the EU's concerns about the monopoly that the merged company may form in specific market areas.
