Tata Group has partnered with Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (PSMC) to start research and development of 14nm chip technology. The move will complement their existing plans to manufacture 28nm nodes at their Dholera semiconductor manufacturing plant in Gujarat. 14nm chip technology has higher efficiency, power and speed, making it ideal for compact electronic devices such as tablets, laptops and smartphones. At the same time, the two companies are also actively promoting the assembly, test, marking and packaging (ATMP) process of indigenous technology. The Dholera plant has a monthly production capacity of 50,000 wafers and an annual output of 3 billion chips to meet the needs of various industries including high-performance computing, electric vehicles (EVs) and consumer electronics. The first chip is expected to be launched by the end of 2026.
