Samsung Electronics considers acquiring Continental's automotive electronics business

Samsung Electronics is considering acquiring part of the automotive electronics business from German automotive electronics company Continental. If successful, this will be the first major merger and acquisition in seven years since the acquisition of Harman in 2017. Samsung Electronics is reportedly in in-depth discussions with Continental on the acquisition of its advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and automotive display businesses. The acquisition will be led by Son Young-kwon, chairman of Harman's board of directors. Although Continental has invested heavily in expanding its future mobile business product portfolio, it still faces challenges in ensuring profitability. Harman, a subsidiary of Samsung Electronics' automotive business, believes it is necessary to enhance its competitiveness in areas such as ADAS and expressed a positive attitude towards the acquisition of Continental's automotive electronics business.
