Nuro becomes the only company to receive FMVSS exemption

So far, only one company, Nuro, has received an FMVSS exemption because its low-speed delivery robot is not large enough to accommodate human passengers. General Motors and Ford Motor Co. tried to get exemptions for their driverless cruise cars, but ultimately gave up. In exchange, the agency requires companies operating driverless cars to provide more data, arguing that greater transparency is needed to cultivate public trust in the technology.
