NHTSA proposes national program called AV STEP to monitor ADS-equipped vehicles

In response to the current ADS environment, this document proposes a national program, called the ADS-equipped Vehicle Safety, Transparency, and Evaluation Program (AV STEP), to complement and advance NHTSA's ADS oversight, rulemaking, research, and transparency efforts and to support a new proposed process for exemptions involving ADS-equipped cars. This voluntary program will provide NHTSA with a framework to review and oversee ADS-equipped vehicles at a time when ADS technology continues to rapidly evolve.
