On December 11, 2024, BYD's all-solid-state battery technology was patented, and this news caused a huge response in the electric vehicle industry. BYD's all-solid-state battery adopts a ceramic route, with a solid electrolyte layer and a ceramic layer added in the middle, so that the battery is evenly stressed, effectively improving the initial efficiency and cycle performance. Compared with traditional lithium-ion batteries, all-solid-state batteries have higher safety. In addition, all-solid-state batteries also have higher energy density, which can provide electric vehicles with longer driving range; the charging speed will also achieve a qualitative leap, greatly shortening the charging time and improving the convenience of use; after the solid electrolyte replaces the liquid electrolyte, the risk of battery fire is greatly reduced, and safety is fundamentally guaranteed. It is expected that small-scale production will begin in 2027 and will be applied to high-end models.
