Google recently announced a major breakthrough with its latest quantum chip, Willow, which achieved amazing results in benchmark tests and was able to complete a standard computing task in less than 5 minutes. By comparison, the world's fastest supercomputer currently takes more than 10^25 years to complete the same task, which is longer than the age of the universe. Willow's breakthrough is that it can significantly reduce errors when using more qubits, successfully solving the quantum error correction challenge that has been studied for nearly 30 years.
