Advantages and Disadvantages of UART Communication Interface

The UART (Universal Asynchronous Receiver Transmitter) communication interface has some significant advantages and disadvantages in automotive electronic systems. Advantages include simple implementation, few hardware requirements, no need for clock synchronization between devices, and widespread support by microcontrollers and peripherals. However, its shortcomings are also obvious, such as distance limitation, which is suitable for short-distance communication, and long distances will be affected by noise and signal attenuation; speed limitation, compared with synchronous communication protocols such as SPI or I2C, the data transmission rate is lower; Single-device communication is mainly designed for point-to-point communication. Additional circuits are required for multi-device communication.
