The Hong Kong SAR semiconductor industry once had independent R&D capabilities

In the 1980s, Motorola established a research and development center in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, enabling the region to independently design and produce chips. In 1995, the DragonBall chip designed by Motorola's Hong Kong semiconductor company, Wanli Semiconductor, was used in Palm-branded PDA processors.
