The LIN application layer provides four functions: signal processing, configuration, identification, and diagnosis. Each function is targeted at logical nodes and helps the host node and/or diagnostic equipment respond to service requests. Among them, the signal processing function allows the application layer to directly obtain or modify signals in the network from the protocol layer, while the configuration function is responsible for automatically selecting configuration items for the host node to eliminate potential conflicts. The identification function enables the host node to obtain information about the logical node, such as product code, etc., while the diagnostic function allows external diagnostic equipment to communicate with the LIN network through the host node.
