GM's Cruise self-driving unit admits to filing false reports, pays $500,000 fine

The U.S. Department of Justice announced that Cruise, the self-driving car division of General Motors, admitted to filing false reports in a federal investigation and has paid a $500,000 criminal fine under a deferred prosecution agreement. It is reported that Cruise did not disclose key details to the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) in a car accident in October 2023.
