It is reported that Zeng Yuqun, chairman and CEO of CATL, said in an interview last week that if US President-elect Trump opens the door to Chinese companies investing in the electric vehicle supply chain in the United States, CATL will consider building a factory in the United States. Zeng Yuqun said that the company wanted to invest in the United States, but was rejected by the US government at the time. He said: "I have always maintained an open mind (to this)." Previously, both Trump's previous term and Biden's Democratic government supported various protectionist trade measures to exclude Chinese electric vehicle and battery manufacturers from the US market. According to Reuters, the incoming Trump will still block the import of Chinese cars. But he said in an interview in August this year: "We will provide incentives. If China and other countries want to come here (the United States) to sell cars, they will build factories here and hire our workers." Reuters reported that Trump's statement made Zeng Yuqun interested in expanding investment in the United States: "I do hope that they will be open to investment in the future."
