Mitsubishi Electric Corporation recently announced that it has successfully developed a new technology that uses a driver monitoring system (DMS) camera to monitor the driver's vital signs, such as pulse and blood pressure, to identify physical abnormalities such as distraction and drowsiness. The technology analyzes facial images to infer stable vital sign information, and when abnormalities are detected, such as a heart attack, rapid measures such as automatic parking are taken to reduce the possibility of accidents.
