It is reported that Precision Neuroscience, a brain-computer interface company, plans to raise $100 million. It has raised $93 million so far and is valued at approximately $500 million. Precision is a competitor of Neuralink, owned by Elon Musk. The new financing provides Precision with more financial support, enabling it to compete with companies such as Neuralink and Science. Precision's device is called the "7th layer cortical interface", inspired by the six-layer structure of the cerebral cortex, and represents a compromise between invasive and non-invasive brain-computer interface technology. The device requires surgical incision of the skull, but does not penetrate deep into the brain tissue, but is placed on the surface of the brain. Precision said this approach avoids damage to brain tissue. In contrast, devices from companies such as Neuralink need to be placed in brain tissue. At present, Precision's device has not yet been approved by regulators, but is being tested.
