BMW Group announced that it will build an electric vehicle battery factory in Rayong, Thailand this year to boost sales of pure electric vehicles and plug-in hybrid vehicles and compete with the Chinese electric vehicle supply chain. The battery assembly plant will use batteries provided by professional partners such as CATL or EVE Energy. The batteries produced will not only supply other factories, but will also be used for local vehicles in Rayong. Whether BMW produces electric vehicles locally will depend on a variety of factors. If it decides to build an electric vehicle plant, Thailand will become the third country in which BMW produces electric vehicles outside the German domestic market, second only to China and Hungary.
