Mitsubishi Electric accelerates construction of 8-inch SiC plant, expected to start production by the end of 2025

Mitsubishi Electric announced the latest progress of its 8-inch SiC plant at its IR Day 2024 event. The plant is located in Kumamoto Prefecture, Japan, and is scheduled to be completed in September 2025 and start production in November of the same year. The total construction area of the plant is approximately 42,000 square meters, and it is mainly responsible for the front-end process of 8-inch SiC wafers. Mitsubishi Electric aims to increase the proportion of SiC sales in its power semiconductor business to more than 30% by fiscal 2030. In addition, the company also plans to introduce automatic conveying systems in all process segments to improve production efficiency, with the goal of increasing SiC production capacity fivefold in fiscal 2026.
