SK Hynix has revealed that SK Hynix's HBM2E is being used in Waymo's self-driving cars, marking the first time the company has disclosed its supply of high-bandwidth memory (HBM) to Google's Waymo. SK Hynix has produced HBM2E specifically for automotive use alone, making it the only company to commercialize HBM for automotive use. Currently, high-end cars use 24GB DRAM and 64/128GB NAND in the infotainment field. By 2028, DRAM capacity is expected to exceed 64GB and NAND will reach around 1TB. For ADAS, the current 128GB DRAM capacity is expected to increase to 384GB, and NAND will expand from 1TB to 4TB. LPDDR is widely used in vehicles, mainly LPDDR4 and 5. In the long run, HBM will become mainstream.
