Geely Holding is working with Chinese automakers to enhance the competitiveness of Malaysia's automotive industry. In 2017, Geely acquired a 49.9% stake in Proton, a subsidiary of Malaysia's DRB-HICOM, and was responsible for overall management and provided product, technology and talent support to Proton. Driven by Geely, Proton turned losses into profits in just over two years. At the end of 2019, Proton employees received a bonus of at least 1.5 months' salary, which was a reward for the first year of profit after Geely acquired a stake in Proton.
