Functions of camshaft position sensors and their applications in various vehicle models

The camshaft position sensor, also known as the cam angle sensor, is an indispensable component of the automobile engine. Its main function is to monitor the position and angle of the camshaft to determine the top dead center position of the first cylinder piston. During the engine startup phase, the ECU relies on the signals provided by the camshaft position sensor and the crankshaft position sensor to accurately identify the position and stroke of each cylinder piston to ensure the correct fuel injection and ignition sequence. In some models equipped with a variable valve timing system, the camshaft position sensor is also responsible for monitoring whether the variable intake and exhaust camshafts have reached the predetermined position.
