Rapidus was founded in August 2022 and is jointly funded by eight Japanese companies including Toyota, Sony, NTT, NEC, SoftBank, Denso, NAND Flash giant Kioxia, and Mitsubishi UFJ. Rapidus' goal is to start mass production of 2nm process in 2027, and its technology comes from cooperation with IBM.
