Indichip Semiconductors Ltd., a power semiconductor startup headquartered in Amaravati, India, and its Japanese joint venture partner Yitoa Micro Technology (YMTL) have signed an agreement with the government of Andhra Pradesh, India, to invest 14,000 crores (about $1.6 billion) to build a silicon carbide wafer fab for power semiconductors locally. Although there is no clear timeline for the silicon carbide wafer fab, its initial capacity is about 10,000 wafers per month. Within two to three years, this capacity is expected to grow to 50,000 wafers per month. Indichip's initial work will focus on 6-inch SiC wafers, with plans to transition to 8-inch wafers in the future.
