Arm, the world's leading supplier of chip technology, is developing a long-term strategy to increase the price of its chips by up to 300%. In addition, Arm is also exploring designing its own chips to compete with its largest customers. It is reported that Arm has kept a low profile in the past few decades, but its annual chip revenue is as high as billions of dollars. Arm licenses its intellectual property to companies such as Apple, Qualcomm, and Microsoft, and charges a small patent fee for each chip produced using its technology. Despite playing a central role in the rise of smartphones and energy-saving data center chips, Arm is still small compared to its customers, with revenue of $3.23 billion in fiscal 2024. However, according to a court transcript last month, SoftBank Group CEO Masayoshi Son and Arm CEO Rene Haas, who hold a 90% stake in Arm, are determined to change this status quo.
