Meta plans to lay off 5% of employees through performance-based cuts

According to an internal memo sent to all employees, Meta plans to cut about 5% of its employees through performance-based layoffs and plans to recruit new employees to fill vacancies this year. As of September 2024, Meta employs about 72,000 employees, so a 5% layoff may affect about 3,600 jobs. Affected U.S. employees are expected to be notified on February 10, and employees in other countries will be notified later.
