Hino Motors to pay $1.2 billion to settle emissions data fraud scandal

Hino Motors, a subsidiary of Toyota Motor Group, has reached a settlement agreement with the U.S. Department of Justice for falsifying emissions data and is required to pay a settlement of $1.2 billion. Hino Motors admitted that there were problems with its emissions data and paid the United States a criminal fine of $521.76 million, a civil fine of $442.5 million, and other amounts. This incident involved about 640,000 vehicles and had far-reaching consequences. Founded in 1942, Hino Motors is Japan's largest commercial vehicle manufacturer, mainly engaged in commercial product business of trucks and buses.
