Apple and MediaTek team up to promote 5G technology in wearable devices

Apple is actively preparing to upgrade its Apple Watch series to 5G networks and plans to switch from Intel to MediaTek as the modem supplier for its cellular version of the Apple Watch. The upgrade will use MediaTek's new 5G Redcap technology, which is a 5G version designed for wearable devices and other devices that do not require high-speed data connections. If the cooperation is successful, this will mark the first time that MediaTek has entered Apple's major hardware product supply chain.
