Honda Motor announced that it plans to close its plant in Ayutthaya by 2025 in order to consolidate its production facilities in Thailand. The plant, which has been in operation since 1996, will stop producing cars next year and switch to producing auto parts. Honda only has two plants in Thailand, Ayutthaya and Prachinburi, of which the Prachinburi plant has been in operation since 2016. Currently, Honda's two plants in Thailand produced a total of 228,000 vehicles in 2019, but the average annual output in the past four years has been less than 150,000 vehicles, and Honda's sales in Thailand have been less than 100,000 vehicles per year. Honda Motor has begun exporting cars from Thailand to other Southeast Asian markets, such as Indonesia and the Philippines.
