Hyundai Motor reportedly plans to suspend the operation of Production Line 12 of its Ulsan Plant 1 from February 24 to 28 due to sluggish domestic demand in South Korea. The production line mainly produces IONIQ 5 and Kona electric vehicles. Previously, the production line had been reported to be operating as an "empty field", that is, only empty conveyor belts were running, but no vehicles needed to be assembled. Hyundai Motor's global sales in January 2025 were 313,999 vehicles, a year-on-year decrease of 2.3%. Among them, domestic sales in South Korea were 46,054 vehicles and overseas sales were 264,345 vehicles, down 7.5% and 1.4% respectively. Only 75 IONIQ 5s were sold in South Korea.
