ON Semiconductor becomes the main supplier of main drive inverters for Volkswagen's SSP electric vehicle platform

ON Semiconductor has been selected as the main supplier of main drive inverters for Volkswagen's SSP electric vehicle platform. ON Semiconductor will provide a complete power box solution based on SiC silicon carbide technology for the platform. ON Semiconductor’s power box solutions will feature its latest generation EliteSiC M3e MOSFETs, a planar transistor chip that significantly reduces energy consumption and can handle more power in a smaller package. The SSP platform, a new generation of fully digital and highly scalable mechatronic platform launched by Volkswagen Group, will support models of all its brands and market segments, and is expected to produce more than 40 million vehicles during its life cycle. The first SSP platform models will be the Audi Q8 e-tron and Audi A8 e-tron, which will be available in 2025 and 2026, respectively.
