Infineon Technologies was formally established in Munich, Germany on April 1, 1999 and is one of the world's leading semiconductor companies. Its predecessor was the semiconductor division of Siemens Group, which became independent in 1999 and went public in 2000. In the automotive sector, Infineon provides semiconductor products for powertrain (engine and transmission control), comfort electronics (such as steering, shock absorbers, air conditioning) and safety systems (ABS, airbags, ESP). The product portfolio includes microcontrollers, power semiconductors and sensors. In the 2018 fiscal year (ending September), sales in the ATV segment reached 3.284 billion euros. The joint venture manufactures power modules for China's vibrant electric vehicle market. The joint venture is named "SAIC Infineon Automotive Power Semiconductors (Shanghai) Co., Ltd." and is headquartered in Shanghai. The production base is located in the expansion project of Infineon's Wuxi factory. On April 16, 2020, Infineon announced that it had completed the acquisition of Cypress Semiconductor Corporation with a total value of 9 billion euros (69.3 billion yuan), making Infineon one of the top ten semiconductor manufacturers in the world.
