Toyota retains global sales champion, BYD surpasses SAIC to become China's largest automaker

The 2024 global auto sales ranking has been announced, with Japan's Toyota Motor Group (including Hino Motors and Daihatsu Motors) becoming the world's sales champion for five consecutive years with sales of 10.8 million vehicles, although down 3.7% year-on-year. In the Chinese market, Toyota's sales were 1.776 million vehicles, down 6.9% year-on-year, making it the world's second largest market after the United States. At the same time, China's largest automaker BYD sold 4.272 million vehicles, up 41.26% year-on-year, surpassing General Motors and Ford Motor of the United States, and jumped to fifth in the global sales ranking.
