South Africa's new car sales market sees slight decline

In 2024, new car sales in South Africa will fall slightly to 515,712 units, a decrease of 3% from 531,775 units in 2023. Despite this, 99% of cars sold in South Africa are still internal combustion engine cars. However, the electric vehicle market shows positive signs of growth. In 2024, the sales of pure electric vehicles in South Africa exceeded the 1,000 mark for the first time, reaching 1,257 units, a year-on-year increase of 35%. In addition, the sales of plug-in hybrid vehicles also increased, reaching 737 units in 2024, a year-on-year increase of 100%.
