Volkswagen announced that it will set up a new R&D center at Volkswagen (China) Technology Co., Ltd. (VCTC) in Hefei, Anhui, China, focusing on the research and development of electric vehicles. The center currently has about 2,000 employees and plans to increase the number of employees to 3,000 by 2024. With this adjustment, a large number of personnel will be transferred to VCTC or other business departments in Anhui, while the Beijing R&D center will retain the development of some hybrid projects. Volkswagen's three joint ventures in China - Volkswagen Anhui, SAIC Volkswagen, and FAW-Volkswagen - will be responsible for the production and sales of new cars developed by VCTC.
