Western Digital and SanDisk plan to split into two independent companies

Western Digital (WD) and SanDisk will split into two independent companies on February 21. The plan was announced as early as 2023, but was postponed and is expected to be completed in 2025. Western Digital originally planned to split its HDD (mechanical hard disk) and flash memory businesses on October 30, 2023, which would create two independent listed companies. However, this plan did not materialize as planned, and Western Digital explained that the split process was "very complicated."
