Samsung SDI and GM to build electric vehicle battery plant in Indiana, U.S.

South Korean battery manufacturer Samsung SDI has reached an agreement with General Motors to build a joint venture electric vehicle battery factory in Indiana, USA. The two parties plan to invest about US$3.5 billion with an initial annual production capacity of 27 GWh. The plan was first announced in April 2023 and is expected to start operations in 2026. Samsung SDI said the goal is to achieve mass production in 2027 and increase annual production capacity to 36 GWh.
