Coherent was founded in the United States in 1966 and listed on the U.S. stock market in 1970. In the summer of 1966, Coherent built their first laser, and since 2016, Coherent's ELA business has begun to explode. Coherent is at the top of the ELA industry chain, providing the key components required for ELA equipment-laser light sources and optical lenses, and has a 100% monopoly in this field. In fiscal 2017, Coherent's revenue was US$1.723 billion, compared with US$857 million in the same period of fiscal 2016, a year-on-year increase of 101%. Coherent is a laser and photonics company with a turnover of up to US$5 billion. In 2021, II-VI Technologies (II-VI) announced the acquisition of Coherent, which was formed by the merger of II-VI and laser company Coherent. The total revenue in fiscal 2023 reached US$5.16 billion.
