Coherent builds wafer production line

Coherent announced that it has established the world's first 6-inch indium phosphide (InP) wafer production line, thereby expanding its InP production capacity in Europe and the United States, and significantly reducing the die cost of InP optoelectronic devices such as lasers, detectors and electronic products. At present, Coherent is promoting the verification of several products based on the 6-inch InP platform, such as 200G electro-absorption modulated lasers (EML), 200G distributed feedback lasers, Mach-Zehnder modulators (DFB-MZ), 100G electro-absorption modulated lasers (EML), high-speed photodetectors, and high-power continuous wave (CW) lasers for silicon photonics. Coherent has achieved many results in the field of VCSEL since last year. At the beginning of this year, Coherent released a VCSEL lighting module platform for automotive and industrial short- and medium-range LiDAR (laser radar) applications. In terms of product shipments, as of August 1, 2023, Coherent's shipments of VCSEL emitters for sensors exceeded 200 billion.
