Coherent, a major U.S. automotive chip material supplier, has attracted investment interest from four Japanese business groups in its silicon carbide business, with a transaction capital of up to $5 billion. The four Japanese companies are Denso, Hitachi, Mitsubishi Electric and Sumitomo Electric, and have discussed the acquisition of a minority stake in Coherent's silicon carbide business. Coherent has CO2, CO, semiconductor, fiber, ultrafast, solid-state UV and other types of laser products, and has an important position in the markets of scientific research lasers and high-power lasers, but most of its business products belong to traditional lasers.
